Helping families hold on to precious memories after loss
MWL NHS Charity is proud to support families through some of life’s most difficult moments.
We are pleased to support this initiative with £10,000 in funding, helping to provide bereavement memory boxes across Mersey & West Lancs Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for families following the loss of a loved one.
These special boxes provide a safe place to keep treasured keepsakes and personal mementos, helping preserve precious memories and lasting connections.
Each box contains thoughtful items including:
- Tags for memory trees
- Materials for handprints
- Wildflower seeds to plant in memory
- A tea light
- Organza bags for locks of hair and jewellery items
We also provide activity books for young people, where appropriate, to help them understand and cope with grief.
Lynda Clarke, Bereavement Coordinator said:
“Memory boxes offer a starting point that can be added to over time, capturing moments to cherish, encouraging open communication, and prompting conversations that help preserve lasting connections with the person who has died. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who carefully prepare each box so they are ready to be provided to families when they are needed.”
Victoria Burrows, Head of Charity at MWL NHS Charity, added:
"Thanks to the continued support of our donors, we are able to make a real difference when it matters most. These memory boxes offer families a meaningful way to hold on to precious memories, and we are honoured to be able to fund something so special across our hospitals."
